About This Quote

When we talk about ancient Greece we often focus on the male-centered culture and the idea of how it was created and how it worked for so long. The male dominated society was also the one that created the greatest philosophical advancements in history, but what is less discussed are the roles of women within this society. Women were considered by many societies to be the inferior sex. They were there to carry the children for nine months, nurse them, and then allow men to raise them.

Then if they didn't put up with mistreatment, they were kicked out of the home. By this time they became an adult and thus she was now her own person. Never again would they be under control of a man.
